We’ve been home for one week today and I still miss it so much.
New Years eve we arrived in Waikiki, Oahu and New Years day we flew to Kauai island, where we shared the next two weeks on a fantastic family vacation. It was so refreshing to get out of Alaska this winter and explore new territory. Kauai was a beautiful island. The peaceful and slow lifestyle there combined with acres of undevloped land and perfect 80 degree temps, made it so unique and enjoyable. Not to mention, the 6:30AM sunrises. It’s been months since we’ve woken up to the sunlight.
New Years Eve – fresh from Alaska
No, he’s not dead. Monk Seals are endangered. There are only about 1500 left in the area of Kauai and they often come right up on the beach to sun bath. The yellow rope is placed by volunteers on the beach in order to give the seals their space. Otherwise, there were crazy people that were getting within inches of them to take photos! The seals are amazing creatures, but they bite and could easily kill someone if they wanted to. It was pretty neat to see them.
